Royal Roads University Master’s Degree Leadership program helps Seniors Come Share Society. Earlier this year the Royal Roads University Leadership program team of approximately 40 Master’s Degree students dedicated two weeks focusing on Seniors Come Share Society. At the beginning of the first week we talked to the students about what Come Share is and what we hoped that they could assist us with. We asked them to do 3 things: Provide an exterior perspective of our organization. Provide some suggestions about how we can reach the people we are here to help proactively rather than when they are in crisis mode. Provide ideas as to how we can shift from temporary grant funding to on-going funding to support the great programs we offer in the community. When we returned a couple of weeks later the group had been divided into eight teams and each gave us a creative suggestions substantiated with research along with a lot of heart. As we listened to the various presentations I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. These students “got it” they understood the value of services such as ours and how they are an integral part of caring for the older members of our community. As we left the site team ‘the panel’ could not say enough about the caliber of the proposals and the incredible sense of unity among the group which we were so fortunate to have been a part of, if only for a brief time. Thank you to all of you. P.S.. We have been invited back next year to share with this same group the changes that have happened over the year thanks to their hard work.
